Skull Tattoo (The Blood The Bones)

from by Hundred Year Old Man

Tom Wright: Drums
Owen Pegg: Guitar
Dan Argyle: Bass
Paul McClure: Vocals

I've stripped away my fears
In realisations made
In understandings met
- This triumph over death -
It seemed to make no sense
To gather up knowledge
To come to terms with things
And lose them in the end

But therein lies release
I take it back with me
- An instance given eyes -
I glimpsed visible light

I never was at peace
- Clouded thoughts persist -
Confusion reigns this space;
Domain just out of reach
Of sense and clarity
Belief in self; worthy
Of pride in who I am
Regard for self had gone

A knowing certainty
This can't be stripped from me
Like confidence removed
Undermined, doubt introduced

Perspective shifts at last
I've come to view the past
In terms of having paid
And in particular the way
I came to see myself
- Embodied disbelief -
The people I'd let down;
Capacity to harm

I realised I had paid
Could see myself, empty
I'd only hurt myself
Entire perspective flips

Skull tattoo
The blood, the bones
- Belief in self -
You've come to terms
And set to work
And seen the worth
And come to know
This triumph
